Tesla— A Pathway To Zero Emission Future?

July 19, 2018

Will your next car talk to traffic lights, apply breaks to help avoid a collision? The world is moving on to futuristic cars and Tesla is innovating by manufacturing a zero emission car. Now, what exactly is zero emission vehicle? According to California air resources Board, zero emission vehicle is a vehicle that emits no exhaust gas from the onboard source of power. Tesla aims to accelerate to world’s transition to sustainable energy by manufacturing a zero emission vehicle. The Zero emission vehicle has played a huge role in padding Tesla’s earnings. It pushed Tesla’s earnings to positive territory for the first time in many years.

Tesla has proved to be successful in defining a new phrase — “Silence is the new power” with its electric cars emitting only a faint hum. Tesla aims to be the most compelling car company of the 21st century by driving the world’s transition to electric vehicles.

Tesla — The safest cars ever

Tesla was founded in 2003 by a group of engineers who wanted to prove that people didn’t need to compromise to drive electric — that electric cars can be better, quicker and more fun to drive than gasoline cars. Today, Tesla builds not only all-electric vehicles but also infinitely scalable clean energy generation and storage products. Tesla believes the faster the world stops relying on fossil fuels and moves towards a zero-emission future. It defines its mission and vision as follows:

Mission — To accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy.

Vision — To create the most compelling car company of the 21st century by driving the world’s transition to electric vehicles.

Tesla’s goal is to push the existing automotive industry towards advanced technologies that enable sustainable business and products based on renewable energy. Tesla’s vision is to be the dominant electric cars and related products manufacturer in the world.

Tesla focuses on the 21st century and thus also on the people of today and is therefore not going overboard with their design. Further, it is hinting toward solving today’s environmental issues with advanced technologies.
with the mention of the ‘21st century’.

Why is Tesla a restorative champion?

Restorative Innovation is an innovation theory that forms the basis of a robust innovation economic model that is used to predict & explain a certain pattern of innovation-driven growth for innovative solutions that does not harm our health, humanity and the environment.”

Tesla does a lot for the environment by manufacturing electric and zero emission vehicles. Moreover, the safety considerations are definitely a plus for humanity.

Tesla’s foray into solar energy devices makes it a sustainability champion. Due to harmful environmental changes, it is more important than ever for mankind to switch to renewable energy sources. The current environmental changes are currently primarily being caused by the excessive usage of fossil fuels. Thus, Tesla helps in saving the environment.

Tesla equips its cars with state-of-the-art batteries. These batteries keep getting cheaper, more efficient, more advanced, and more powerful to meet the demand of consumers, so they won’t have to compromise anymore. The price point for Tesla cars was an issue at first. But with the introduction of the Tesla Model 3, a Tesla car became a lot more affordable for mainstream consumers. The reason that Tesla is currently between point 2 and 3 in the restorative innovation curve is because the Tesla Giga factory isn’t running at full capacity yet (and won’t be before 2020). This means that the price of their batteries and cars hasn’t hit their lowest point yet.

While Tesla is spearheading the offensive when it comes to developing electrical cars, others are catching up, albeit slowly. While the idea of such cars may sound environmentally friendly, the current carbon footprint of electric cars is still relatively big mainly due to the toxic production process of batteries. The same applies to tesla’s solar roof (roof shingles with integrated solar cells) and Tesla’s battery pack for your home. They are wonderful technologies but if Tesla intends on dominating the world with its technologies, products, and ideas, more efficient and/or environmentally friendly production processes have to be developed.

Developing new kinds of batteries that have a higher energy density or allow for faster charging can change the playing field for Tesla, making their products even more interesting. The main challenges for electrical vehicles are their limited range and the required time to charge them.

Tesla can be considered successful because it has

single-handedly kickstarted the EV industry into overdrive and has disrupted the automobile industry. When successful mankind will be driving electrical vehicles of any make in all kinds of price categories that rely on sustainable energy, allowing the world to heal from its environmental damage and for mankind to flourish again.
